St. Ignace History Day at Fort de Buade
If you ever wanted to know more about St. Ignace and its beginnings, you won't want to miss 'St. Ignace History Day'! Activities include:
10:30 a.m.- 6:30 p.m. - Silverfox Flute Performance (with breaks)
- Silverfox is seen lifting his flutes as if to call upon the Great Spirit. This thrilling musical experience is more than a feeling, as his sacred sounds fill the very core of what we feel as we drift into his delightul performance.
11:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. - Author Doris Kelly, will be signing books throughout the day (with breaks)
- Doris Kelly, has written Big Mitten Mysteries, a series of books for young readers with locations in Michigan. Book #1 features Fort Michilimackinac; Book #2, Mackinac Island; and Book #3, just released, takes place right in the Fort de Buade Museum!
12:00 -2:00 p.m.
- Cemetery Walking Tour
1:00 p.m. - Demonstrations with Keith Knetch in period crafting.
- Keith Knetch is an interpreter, and allows you to step back in time with a guided walk through the museum.
3:00 p.m. - "Fur Trading in the Straits of Mackinac" with Keith Knetch.
3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. - Boardwalk Walking Tour
Mark Santigo, 4th generation great grandson of the Sangito family, will be here to recall stories that have been passed down to him.
Larry Martin, PhD., will offer demonstrations in flint and steel fire making, flint knapping, and native pump drill covering the early colonial period to the 1800's. Artifacts and arrow points will be available for sale.
Round out your evening with either the Cemetery Walk or the Boardwalk Walking Tour.
